Panasonic has announced its earliest stand only Blu-Ray Disc Recorder, the DMR-BW500. The DMR-BW500i can list up to 72 hours of Full High Definition 1080p recording onto the put up in 500GB Hard Disk Drive (HDD) or 6 hours 40 min on a 50GB dual layer Blu-ray Disc. In addition to video, it can register 5.1-channel Dolby Digital surround sound broadcasts and Blu-ray movies are played in studio-master superior at a frame market prices of 24 frames per second. The new series of DVD and Blu-ray recorders and players are by now easily obtainable just in Japan but will be able to be on hand in some markets in August.

Buffalo Launches External HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Combo

Buffalo is launching a series of external optical drives in Europe. The high-end model will feature a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray combo drive. It will be able to write Blu-Ray discs, but only read HD-DVD. If writing Blu-Ray discs isn’t in your todo list, there is another model that only reads both formats.

Available in Europe in March. No pricing yet.
